It is reported that the Trump administration’s Justice Department is continuing to pursue the Little Sisters of the Poor, and other religious institutions, to enforce the contraception and abortion mandate against them. I’m as surprised as you are! Some are suggesting that the Justice Department is just trying to make sure the repeal is “done right.” I am not yet convinced.
So please recover from any shock instantly because there’s work to do!
I need you to send quick notes (by email or snail mail) to the powers-that-be right away…and in “shock-and-awe” volume, ok? Remind the President of his campaign promises to drop the mandate.
Here’s some suggested language:
It appears that the Trump administration is continuing to demand that the Little Sisters of the Poor, and other religious institutions violate their conscience by arranging to attach free birth control and early abortifacient drugs to their employees’ health insurance policy. This is a violation of religious freedom!
Furthermore, 5 years into this mandate, even the nation’s loudest contraception and abortion advocacy researcher—the Guttmacher Institute—admits that the mandate didn’t persuade more women to get or use the free drugs and devices. They wrote: “We observed no changes in contraceptive use patterns among sexually active women.”
An Obama administration insider has admitted that the mandate was first and foremost a tactic designed to attract the “women’s vote” toward Obama’s 2012 re-election. It was never about “benefits for women’s health.”
Please reply to my letter as soon as you can to let me know that you will help to get rid of the Mandate.
